WE ALL LOVE HALLOWEEN | But How Did It All Begin?

[ENCORE POST REVISED FROM LAST HALLOWEEN]

Young or old, big or small, Scribbles pals sure do love Halloween. And why not? It's the one time of the year you can be whatever you desire...the more imaginative, the better!

When I look back at some of the crazy Halloween costumes I donned over the years, it makes me laugh. From traditional fare like the devil or a cowboy to the boss at a book club outlet I worked for and the actual book club building itself,  there were never a shortage of clever ideas in that era.

So just how did all the haunted houses, door-to-door candy collecting and costume parties get started?  Here's an article from NIAGARA THIS WEEK that explains the origins of Halloween.

EVENTS AND DATES IN THE POST ABOVE ARE OVER....THEY HAPPENED LAST YEAR

VIDEOS | TV's 'Thriller' is Perfectly Scary!

Thriller may have only aired on TV for 2 seasons back in 1960 -1962, but its stories are as intriguing today as they were 5 decades ago.

The series was edgier than The Alfred Hitchcock Hour but not as "far-out" as The Twilight Zone.

Hosted by and often co-starring Boris Karloff, Thriller remains edge of your seat fun as these examples show.

'The Storm' is one of my faves and even more fun to watch when it is actually storming out. The musical score for this episode is riveting, it really brings out the scary parts, of which there are many.

All episodes of Thriller are better when watched in a room with very little lighting, and maybe a candle..just to make it even spookier.

Then sit back and try not to scream, because at Mr. Karloff says "This is a thriller!"

SCRIBBLES VIDEO | Jeanne Turns 60 - We Throw a Surprise Party

We showed you a short clip of Jeanne Prince's 60th birthday in August. But there was much more to the party than me surprising the Hell out of my amazing cousin.

The party was organized by Jeanne's sister, daughter, nieces and other enthusiasts and held at the beautiful home of Bill & Janet McParland.

See how I managed to get to the once in a lifetime event and the fun we all had surprising Jeanne, taking pix in the photo booth with the dude from 'The Walking Dead', and partying into the wee hours of the night.

One of the high points of my year....Check it out!

Canadian group Walk Off The Earth appeared at City Folk in Ottawa and our pal Megan Fox was on hand not only to enjoy their concert, but to meet them...AGAIN!

Megan was joined at the Sept. 17th show by her mom Jeanne Prince and Meg's good friend Karyn McKinnon.

Megan dubbed the event "Best Time Ever", when she posted the photo above on facebook and one friend mussed, she must be friends with the popular group by now.

Megan assured us Walk Off The Earth all introduced themselves to her and implied she'll need to do better if she plans on getting on a first name basis with her faves.

REVIEW | Hold Mommy's Cigarette

Shelley Marshall's one woman show 'Hold Mommy's Cigarette' is a raw, emotional and often funny look at the artist's life.

Actually, calling it a one woman show, doesn't seem right, for not only does Shelley portray herself at various stages in her life she also plays her grandmother and often has you feeling like her entire family is on stage.

Shelley battled with depression for many years and attempted suicide and her father committed suicide. Two things I immediately connected with since they both happened to me as well.

'Hold Mommy's Cigarette' reveals how Marshall turned things around,  From the depths of depression, she has become a renown stage performer whose plays have won her awards and accolades across Canada. What truly makes Shelley happy is creating a more open dialogue and understanding of mental illness and she has worked with many groups.

I literally laughed out loud several times during the show and I cried when I hugged Shelley after the show.

I'm so glad our friend Nancy Erskine brought the show to my attention and to Deanna Gilligan who I went to the play with.
