diy...Gel Air Freshener

From PINTEREST    A relatively low cost Do-It-Yourself room air freshener, you may have all the ingredients already!

The total time it takes to make is about five to six (5-6) minutes and then twenty-four (24) hours to solidify.

Materials & Equipment:

• Three (3) to four (4) jars, capable of holding 1/2-cup of fluid each. I used four (4) clean and recycled baby food jars, and each jar holds 1/2-cup of mixture.
• Food Coloring
• Essential Oil or Room Fragrance drops (Can be purchased at a craft store, but I found one on sale for $2 at Wal-mart.)
• Two (2) cups of water, divided into two 1-cup amounts
• Four (4) envelopes unflavored gelatine (one 1-oz box)
• One (1) tablespoon of salt
• Kitchen equipment such as a whisk, a pan to boil the water and spoons (plastic or metal) to mix the concoction

Prepare:

• Pour a few drops of food coloring of your choice into each jar.
• Next, pour one (1) teaspoon (minimum) of essential oil into each jar. You may want to add more if you desire a stronger scent emanating from the end result.

Boil and Mix:

• Bring one (1) cup of water to a boil.
• Add all four (4) envelopes of gelatine to the boiling water and whisk until dissolved.
• After the gelatine dissolves, add the remaining cup of water and then the salt.
• After the salt dissolves, remove the pan from the heat and pour into the prepared jars. Try pouring the mixture into the jars within a few minutes of removing the pan off of the heat.
• NOTE: Please be careful as the mixture will be very hot
You may want to use a funnel to put the gelatine mixture in the jars.
• Sir using plastic spoons. Use them quickly as the heat from the water could make them melt slightly.

Let the now fragrant gel mix solidify at room temperature for at least 24-hours.

Our pal Em recently celebrated her 7th birthday, so these pix weren't exactly taken recently. LOL! Cute. no matter how many years may pass.

IN NEED OF SOMETHING BRIGHT & CHEERY,  I
CREATED  A NEW  DISPLAY AREA FOR MY SIMPSONS
COLLECTIBLES. WATCH FOR AN IN-DEPTH LOOK
AT MY EFFORTS IN AN UPCOMING VIDEO
Hello Everyone,

It's been about 3 weeks since we last met here, so let's start off by getting you up to speed as to where we are at.

Originally, I had hoped to have several new posts and a new video ready for your amusement this weekend. But between a busy but fun week of cat sitting, followed by a week of chronic neck & back pain and the anxiety caused by Covid-19, all that I've completed in the "new stuff" department is an ever-growing list of things I plan on featuring.

As of now, it looks like these newbies will be ready for their close-ups by next weekend. Included in the launch will be our review of Tanya Tucker's awesome concert, Rob & Rodney's 40th birthday, a video about my Simpsons collectibles, new canine companions and a new look for Scribbles SuperFans feature.

Now to address the self-isolated elephant in the room. Judging by some of your Facebook posts and conversations about Covid-19, it appears there's a mix of optimism, fear and anger.

The optimism comes from those who applaud our country's efforts to minimize the spread of the frightening virus, with added hope that things will return to normal soon.

fear comes from the uncertainty of it all (Who has it? Who will get it? How do I keep my loved ones and myself safe? How long will we need to isolate? etc.)

And lastly, there's anger towards those who left store shelves barren for the rest of us, by stock piling toilet paper and hand santizer (and even greater contempt towards those who are reselling these items online at staggering costs) and anger at those world leaders and individuals who point a finger of blame, downplay just how dangerous Covid-19 really is, and defiantly ignore social distancing and self isolation, putting all us in harm's way.
I can't cure the Corona virus, nor can I speed up the time frame it is going to take before things return to "normal", but I can provide you with a little escape and distraction, after all it's what Scribbles does as the best of times, so now it seems even more essential.

I could have simply waited until the new posts were ready, but I feel there's an urgency towards lifting spirits right NOW...not a week from now. With that in mind, I explored some of Scribbles past posts, with particular attention towards those that made me laugh, smile or feel good about humanity. The results are a selection of 10 encore posts and two classic Scribbles comics, all designed to brighten your day.

I'm calling this our get HAPPY edition and I hope it does precisely that.

Hang in there my treasured friends, this too shall pass.

Sincerely,
Ken

worth repeating...

Scribbles friend Diane was beaming after she participated in a marathon.... almost 5 years ago!
Her beautiful smile always makes me smile right back and that's why I've included this story in our getHAPPY! section.

No social distancing here. It's still okay to snuggle with this little fuzzy friend.

Clap Along & Be Happy

We couldn't call this our get HAPPY edition without including this cheery tune. It's a good song to get up and move around to and with many of us sitting at home, not moving around as much as usual, sometimes it's good to get up and move.

Plus we have those lovable bright yellow minions and their zany antics, who doesn't love them. This video defintely has a lot to be happy about.

  EPISODE 5

I've got my kleenex ready. This is indeed gonna be a very bittersweet affair. They're setting the storyline foundation for the big goodbye, I wonder how they'll end it?

And the farewell special following the series finale sounds like it too will be memorable, with behind-the-scenes reads & words of praise from celebrity fans including Carol Burnett.

Mark your calendars, Tues. Apr. 7. And don't forget, the final episode starts at 8 pm NOT the usual 9 pm slot, that's when the farewell special airs.

fun memory....

get HAPPY!  ENCORE FROM OCT 2015

This fond moment happened almost 5 years ago and makes reference to my 55th birthday. With 60 in the wings, that 55 seems pretty sweet right now. LOL.

Scribbles pal Hazel Mackiddie invited me to join her at the Mandarin Restaurant for lunch on Oct. 1st. The popular Chinese food chain is celebrating the Moon this month and Thursday they offered 50% off for all seniors.

Although Hazel had made a reservation, which helped a bit, the place was very busy and the parking lot was packed.  Hazel is 74 years old (and YES I asked her in advance if I could include that info here...LOL) She has officially been a senior for 9 years but still had to show her senior's card to the hostess.

We pigged out on appetizers, entrees & desserts and the food and service were top notch as expected. We made sure to go back for seconds on our favourite dishes. You can't say they don't have much to offer at the Mandarin, that's for darn sure!

When we finished, Hazel took the bill. We were charged for TWO senior half price specials.  I was happy we received a lower bill, especially since it was Hazel's treat, but not overly amused that the day before my 55th birthday, I received a senior's discount.  Hell, I had even freshly coloured my hair and goatee hours before we went there.

But half off anything is always a good deal, even if it bruises your ego a bit. LOL!

Well it's fairly obvious this isn't a recent outing since right now the Mandarin is only offering take out/ delivery orders. Looking forward to a time when once again we can all enjoy the buffet at the Mandarin

a foggy memory...

get HAPPY! ENCORE FROM MAR 2012

Niagara Peninsula (and many other places in Eastern Canada) have experienced record-breaking warm weather recently and with those balmy temperatures comes lots of early morning fog. Our pal Rich Hunt and his buddy grabbed their cameras and snapped up these amazing photos last weekend. The pix really capture the haunting feeling often associated with thick fog.

And speaking of haunting, if you look closely at the photo above, you might just see the spirit of Bob Marley chillin' with Rich (no doubt discussing their common interest...making beautiful music.)  For the record, Marley was photoshopped into the scene by abundantly creative Rich.

When he's not behind the camera's lense, Rich Hunt's other passion is singing. CLICK HERE to listen to some of his original songs on ReverbNation.

get HAPPY!  ENCORE FROM SEPT 2013

Our little buddy Louie has resided at doggie heaven for several years now, but this amusing photo of him reminds his mom Erin, family & friends what a fun doggy he was.

Here's the copy used when this was featured in Sept 2013

I literally laughed out loud when I saw this pic on my cousin Erin's facebook page.  It's her family dog Louie and he just happens to be a perfect fit for her son Dylan's funky Build a Bear glasses.

My Erin, he looks very studious here. Has he read any good books or created his own blog yet?  LOL

cute...5 Year Olds "Trick" Their Teacher

ENCORE FEATURE  When five-year-old Jax demanded a buzz cut like his school friend Reddy Weldon’s, he thought nothing of it, his mother Lydia Stith Rosebush explained.
“He just said, ‘I’m getting it cut like Reddy. I’m going to look like Reddy,’” Stith Rosebush told CTVNews.ca in a phone interview from her home in Louisville, K.Y. on Thursday.
Jax’s intention was simple enough: he wanted to trick their pre-K teacher, Ms. April, into mixing up their identities in class.
His logic seems spot-on, but the innocence of his plan turned his fashion choice request into a viral sensation after his mother shared the story online.
The reason? Jax is white and Reddy is black.
Stith Rosebush said she thought her son’s idea was hilarious and decided to share an account of the conversation, and an accompanying photo of the two boys, on Facebook.
“I just laughed,” she explained. “Jax is really funny and he just says funny things and he has no problem letting you know his opinion on things.”
To her surprise, the story quickly spread and was picked up the local news media in her area. As of Thursday, Stith Rosebush’s post has attracted 91,000 “Likes” and more than 5,000 comments.
“This is crazy. It’s been shared all over the world,” she said. “It’s complete insanity.”
The mother of two said most of the online reaction has been positive, with many praising her parenting skills and noting that adults could learn a thing or two from Jax.
“I think a lot of people, especially today, could learn from the innocence of children,” she said. “Like, of course they see that they’re different. They’re five. They’re not stupid. They see each other, but they don’t care. It doesn’t matter.”
On Tuesday, Jax’s wish came true and he received a buzzed haircut with the news cameras rolling and Reddy by his side.
“He loves it. He talks about his haircut all the time. He has no idea why people care so much about his haircut,” Stith Rosebush said.
The next day, Jax’s plan to confuse his teacher was set into motion. Stith Rosebush said Reddy had already laid the groundwork by convincing everyone in the class that he was Jax before the real Jax had even arrived.
As for how the scheme worked on Ms. April…
“It’s been all over the news here so she thought it was super cute and she played along with them trying to switch places,” Stith Rosebush said with a laugh.
Mission accomplished, Jax.
