SCRIBBLES VIDEO | Return to Renfrew County

Here's a video all about my return to the Ottawa Valley, this time with a different travel companion....my mom!
Mom and I went to the valley for 6 days Aug. 20-26 where we stayed at Cedar Beach Camp Resort in Douglas.

Although there were a couple of things that I did when I was there with my sister that were similar to what mom & I did, for the most part it was an entirely different experience than a couple of months ago.

Different locations. Different activities. And different fun....

'A Sense of Country' is Mind Blowing

When I was back in Renfrew last month I did a lot of sight seeing, which included taking in the charm of the revamped downtown area. One of the places I happened upon was an amazing shop called A Sense of Country.

From the outside, it looks like a small store... believe me, it's definitely not. The shop is comprised of many unique rooms and travels way, way back all the way to the street that runs parallel to Raglan Street. It really is mind blowing to keep going and going as you discover the many sections and unique items at A Sense of Country which includes an old fashioned candy area, the country kitchen room , a man cave, gifts for pet lovers, a year round Christmas section, wedding gifts and much, much more.

Below is a video I found on A Sense of Country's website which was created by 96.1 my FM Renfrew, a popular local radio station. It's not quite the same as actually being there, but certainly gives you an idea of what kinds of cool things you'll find there.

Our pal Jim (aka Joe Friday) is quite the dog whisperer as we see in the photos above. Did you find the 7 things that are different in the right photo as opposed to the left photo? Here they are: 1. The straw in the drink is now yellow. 2. The little grey dog on the left no longer has its tongue sticking out  3. Jim's goatee is longer  4. The black and white dog's tag is gone. 5. The black and white dog's collar is now blue.  6. Jim's forearm no longer has a tattoo. 7. The right button on the cushion is now larger.

SCRIBBLES VIDEO | Ken Answers Your Questions

Sunday (Sept. 1) officially marked 40 years to the day, that I created the first Scribbles (or what would eventually evolve to Scribbles I guess would be more accurate.)

I asked some of you if you had any questions about Scribbles. You did. Here's a few of them along with my responses.

Do you have a question about Scribbles?
Send it Ken via email (kenscribbles@gmail.com)  or thru Facebook.

PASSAGES | Valerie Harper

VALERIE HARPER | AUG. 22, 1939 - AUG. 30, 2019
I admired Valerie Harper from the very first time I saw her on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She usually made me laugh more than Mary and it's little wonder she won 3 Emmy Awards for her role as Mary Richard's endearing and amusing neighbour.
Her sitcom Rhoda remains one of my all-time favourites and I eagerly bought each season when it became available on DVD, a collection that I'll treasure even more now.
Valerie was brave and courageous. She lived with cancer since 2009... and I mean she really lived each and every moment, she was an inspiration to many.
Although I obviously never met her, somehow it feels like I’ve lost a good friend. It's strange how she was able to make us feel that way.

VIDEO | 'Rhoda's Wedding'
The episode “Rhoda’s wedding” was one of the most watched TV shows of all time and it still makes us laugh to this very day.
