SCRIBBLES VIDEO | Godzilla vs. 9 Rebecca St.

I hadn't really thought about my family's old place on Rebecca Street in St. Catharines for a while, but all that changed on July 6th when I received text messages and several DM's telling me that the old homestead was being torn down.

I had my mom's car that day and was curious to see this for myself. By the time I arrived there was nothing left but a pile of rubble, a backhoe & a porta-potty. I made small talk with the backhoe operator, before he went back to work.

I missed out on all the action, but other Scribbles friends who live in the neighbourhood saw it all and shared their photos and video clips with me.

Here's that footage of the demolition accompanied by Japan's favourite pre-historic monster, Godzilla *(Spoiler alert, it doesn't end well for the house.) Some might think I'm being insensitive, but I don't look at it that way. Was I shocked to receive messages that my family's old home was being torn down? Yes. Was it sad to see the place reduced to a pile of debris? Absolutely. But I was also mystified by how quickly the job was done and the power of that backhoe. It looks even more interesting when you speed it up. That's where the concept for the following video came from.

Bye 9 Rebecca Street. The house may be gone, but the many memories are ours forever.
