Never "Goodbye"

It has now been five years since we said goodbye to our friend Paula MacArthur, who passed away March 16, 2008.

Perhaps "goodbye" isn't really the right term. For although Paula is no longer a part of our day to day lives, in many ways she will always be with us. Her sense of humour, courage and tremendous strength are things Paula would never want us to forget and would kick our ass if we ever did.

Today instead of "goodbye" I am saying "hello" to Paula and letting her know that 'Kenny Boy' still thinks of her often and always will.

Party Brothers

Although it was less wild than the year before and we have no videos to embarrass anyone with, there was still plenty of fun to be had at Rodney and Robert Dennis' 33rd Birthday party, held Mar. 8th in Welland.

Joined by family and friends, the birthday boys partied into the wee hours where Rob learned a new word and we all discovered that ouzo is not our favourite liquor. I acted as DJ for a while and had several guests rockin' and rollin' to the tunes I selected (although I suspect the ouzo also had something to do with this.)

Some guests stayed over night while others used their designated drivers for a safe ride home. Timmi and I spent the night and although he was perky the next day, I looked forward to a much needed nap when I got home.

Same time next year guys?

The Young and the Restless Celebrates its 40th Anniversary

Don't try and deny it, we know you watch it. TV's number one daytime drama The Young and the Restless will officially celebrate its 40th anniversary on March 26th.

For the next three weeks, brief interview clips with many of the cast will be featured prior to each episode (seen weekdays at 12:30 pm on CBS) in celebration of the show's milestone anniversary.

For the record, The Young and the Restless is not TV's longest running soap. That honour belonged to The Guiding Light which premiered as a radio program in 1937, before moving to TV in 1952. It left the air Sept. 18, 2009.

What The Young and the Restless does take top honours for is consistently remaining the number one soap opera for several decades. This is made even more poignant as while there were once 13 daytime dramas to choose from, only 4 remain today.

J.R. Leaves the Ewings in True 'Dallas' Style

It was everything they had promised and then some, when TNT's 'Dallas' said farewell to infamous TV bad boy J.R. Ewing on Mar. 11th.

Paying homage to actor Larry Hagman who died last November, the episode titled 'J.R.'s Masterpiece' brought together current characters along with cameo appearances by some of the original series cast.

In the early 80's, J.R. Ewing survived being shot in the mother of all cliffhangers. This time around the shots prove to be fatal and he is then laid to rest.

Particularly moving were scenes featuring J.R.'s ex-wife Sue Ellen (Linda Gray) and his brother Bobby (Patrick Duffy) as they said their goodbyes. Given the close friendship the three stars shared in real life over the years, it seems certain that the tears they shed on this episode were genuine, as were the ones shed by many viewers (myself included.)

But even in death, J.R.'s scheming seems destined to continue, as we are given clues of in the episodes final minutes.

In typical 'Dallas' fashion, we were left with more questions than answers surrounding J.R.'s death, who did it and what he was up to when it happened. The answer to those mysteries will be revealed in the weeks ahead and somewhere evil old J.R. is smiling proudly, knowing he will forever be a part of the legacy known as 'Dallas'.

We immediately fell in love with this pix when we saw it on Gail Sharratt-Mallory's facebook page. It's her kitty Charlie, enjoying the good life perched atop of his royal podium, looking out the window at a domestic... Well, at least that's the way Scribbles sees it. LOL!

This amazing photo was taken when Laura DeGraaf and her fiance Ryan Haanappel were vacationing in Alberta. Ryan is behind the camera and that's our friend Laura riding on a horse.

What a great photo. Canada certainly is a beautiful country.

Old Man Winter Go Away!
 With March bringing us a mixed bag of weather from snow to rain and everything in between, we though it might be a good time to repost this short Scribbles Video.

Butterflies taste with their feet.

 If a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

• When loved ones come home, always run to greet them
• Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride
• Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy
• Take naps
• Stretch before rising
• Run, romp, and play daily
• Thrive on attention and let people touch you
• Avoid biting when a simple growl will do
• On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass
• On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shade tree
• When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body
• Delight in the simple joy of a long walk
• Be loyal
• Never pretend to be something you're not
• If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it
• When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently

March Madness!

There will be lots of cakes, candles, balloons and parties this month, as many Scribbles pals celebrate their birthday.

Here's just a few of those friends who celebrate their birthday in March, as seen in the photo above. [clockwise from top left]  Rodney and Rob Dennis (yep, they're twins and somehow their birthdays are always on the same day), Falynn Shaw (who celebrated her 30th birthday with a massive party on Friday and who hopefully isn't still hangin'....LOL), my sister Kim Papple (whose birthday is March 15th), Mikol Zahorchak (his birthday was March 1st), Rob's niece Joanna (seen with Niall Horan from One Direction) and everyone's favourite ham...ham operator, that is...Bob Miller, another March 1st baby.

Now we just know that we will be inundated with messages of all the other Scribbles pals who also celebrate their birthday this month and of course we wish all of you a very Happy Birthday as well.

 Rio Preparing an Amazing Welcome

"Solar City Tower ," built atop the island of Cotonduba, will be the welcome symbol to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .

It will be seen by the game visitors and participants as they arrive by air or water.

The tower, captures solar energy. It will supply energy
for all of the Olympic city, as well as also for part of Rio .

It pumps up water from the ocean to create what
appears like a water fall and this fall stimulates turbines that produce energy during the night.

It will also hold the Olympic flame.

The Tower possesses an amphitheatre, an auditorium, a cafeteria and boutiques. Elevators lead to various observatories.

It also has a retractable platform for the practice of bungee jumping.

At the summit is an observation point to appreciate the scenery of the land and ocean, as well as the water fall.

Solar City Tower will be the point of reference for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

OUR AMAZING PETS

These days, to keep my gas costs down, whenever I have an appointment in St. Catharines with my doctor or therapist, I also try to incorporate a get together with family and friends.

Recently I dropped by our pal Shelley Stewart's place to pay her a visit. As if getting together with Shelley wasn't exciting enough, I was cheerfully greeted by her guide dog Reese when I approached the front door.

Reese is a frisky young girl and when she is not working, she's all dog, wanting to toss balls and get lots of attention. She demonstrated that by giving me big sloppy kisses (one big Reese kiss is the equivalent to about 5 or 6 little Timmi kisses)

Afterwards I took her for a walk (or was that the other way around?) where she tended to her "business". And just like those big kisses, one of Reese's "businesses" is equal to many of wee Timmi's...WOO...anyone have a shovel handy?   LOL!

Change is Good

Every now and then Scribbles likes to fine tune its look. This is one of those times. We're not saying there was anything necessarily wrong with how we looked before, but - as with many things in life - there's always room for improvement.

One of the things you have no doubt noticed is that our sidebar section is now featured on the right and is wider than before. This new size allows us to feature more Events info and ads without compressing them so much you can't read them.

We have also added more content to the sidebar including our new Support section. Due to my own demons, I've discovered some valuable resources for help. As part of my efforts to "give back", Scribbles will soon be offering even more support. If you are reading this and feel like the world is out to get you....you are NOT alone. Others (myself included) also feel that way many times and I urge you to hold on and seek the help you might need...our Support section is a good place to start.

We also offer an expanded Scribbles Archives area where you can now venture back by year and month to find past posts. An easy way to relive some of your favourite Scribbles moments of the past few years.
