1 YEAR LATER: The Tanya Tucker Experience

We're talking a lot about it being a whole year since life as we knew came to a screeching halt.  It reminds me that it was also one year ago that my mom & I went to a Tanya Tucker show. As it would turn out, ours was one of Tucker's last shows before everything closed. Had the show been scheduled a week later than it was, there'd be no concert for me to relive fondly.

HERE'S AN EDITED ENCORE OF OUR REVIEW OF TANYA TUCKER CONCERT FROM ONE YEAR AGO...

ever since I was in my late teens, I have loved Tanya Tucker. Her bad girl reputation and scandalous romances, which the tabloids loved to exploit, always intrigued me.

Last January I saw an ad that made me nearly fall off my chair. The one and only Tanya Tucker was coming to St. Catharines. I was in a state of disbelief.

My mother’s birthday was in February. I grabbed my Mastercard and ordered two tickets. As expected mom was quite surprised.

I knew mom hadn’t been to the First Ontario Performing Arts Centre before, but I didn’t know that she had also never ever been to a concert before. This added yet another layer of excitement to the event.

i recognized Tanya's opening number immediately. It was an extended intro to the hit ‘Trouble’ and a minute or so later, out strutted the country legend herself, looking fabulous dressed in leather, topped off with a stylish black cowboy hat. “WOO HOO!!!” I exclaimed loudly.

The extremely personable Tucker shared stories of her life with the audience between songs. At one point they brought out her bulldog Stella. Tanya spoke of her love for the spotlight stealing dog, who didn’t want to return backstage. As a result, Stella amused us all, tagging along behind Tanya throughout the next song.

After performing her hit ‘Bring My Flowers Now’, several people in the crowd did precisely that, bringing bouquets to the front of the stage. Tanya was very grateful.

after the final song, the band resumed playing while Tucker signed autographs and posed for pix, before blowing us all a big kiss and leaving the stage.

It was a very special night for so many reasons and I can hardly wait until we can all go to shows like this again.

Encore Scribbles Video

Here's an encore of our Scribbles Video when I first got to meet Bella last August. Actually, come to think of it, thanks to the pandemic, this was also the only time I have actually seen her in person (or should that be "in dog?")

Chris Counts Down to Graduation

AN EXCERPT FROM ONTARIO COLLEGES WEBSITE,  IN CASE YOU WONDERED WHAT AN ECE IS...  .

What to expect from a career as an Early Childhood Educator

Teaching at any level is a rewarding career, but early childhood teachers have a special opportunity to help children in their earliest stages. Early childhood education programs at Ontario colleges teach students the skills they need to get children started on a successful journey through the education system.

Early childhood education training is structured to teach both the theoretical and practical sides of early childhood development (children 12 and under).

You will learn about basic health, safety and behaviour as well as how to understand children's environments and early learning mechanisms. You will also learn to plan early childhood education curriculums for a variety of levels, and will develop your writing and communication skills to work with children, parents, and members of the education and teaching system.

ECE programs have extensive field placement opportunities, placing students in preschools, child care programs, hospitals and kindergartens for real-world experience.

JAN. 15, 2021

Hello Everyone,

I really don’t wish to dwell on the pandemic in this editorial. We all know what’s going on and that it’s going to be a while before we see light at the end of the tunnel.

What I do want is to continue bringing you a great escape from all that gloom and doom. In the past 10 months you’ve told me how much you enjoy Scribbles, more than any other time in our 41 plus years.

This isn’t to say I felt you didn’t already appreciate Scribbles, it’s just that right now we all seem to be seeing its true value. It makes us happy, it makes us laugh and best of all, it takes us away from the woes of the world. I’ve said it countless times before, but it’s worth repeating again...every time you say Scribbles brought you joy, that in turn brings the joy back to me. What a unique endless happiness circle we’re a part of.

The primary theme of this edition is to offer amusing ways to deal with isolation burnout, which understandably many are experiencing these days. We have a section of ideas to past the time, made all the more entertaining thanks to old photos of kids and pets hand picked from Scribbles vast archives. If laughter’s the best medicine, we have a double dose with a section of humourous comics and another with witty, albeit corny, word play. We top this part of our new edition off with You Need to Calm Down Contest.

Every year around this time we debut a new video highlighting what we all did at Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Thankfully this year is no exception. Scribbles Friends Holidays 2020 features photos and video blended with animated clips of you & I. The winner of our Find Frosty Contest is also included here.

Happy New Year my friends. Enjoy today's Scribbles.

VIDEO | Scribbles Friends Holidays 2020

They were far from typical but our resilient Scribbles pals found unique ways of safely enjoying the holidays. Zoom gatherings, Facetime, phone calls and virtual parties, all topped the list of ways we kept in touch.

In the land of Scribbles, one of our holiday traditions is to present a collection of photos and video clips that feature the ways our friends enjoyed Christmas and New Year's Eve. We gather most of the content for our video from your Facebook posts, which means this annual treat was uneffected by this year's restrictions. Add some animated versions of our friends doing all sorts of silly things and two classic toe tapping tunes by KC & the Sunshine Band, and you have our Holidays 2020 video.

And stick around till the very end of our 8 minute video, to see who wins this year's Find Frosty Contest, with a little help from Ken's sister Kim & Officer Leeeevoy.
