‘He opened the package and he just burst out crying’

He reached for his wallet, but it wasn’t there.
Robert Proulx was at Walmart taking advantage of Boxing Day deals when he lost it. He put his wallet on the counter and paid for his purchase, but became distracted and left it behind.
The 32-year-old didn’t think he’d ever see it again, or the $40 of cash, and gift cards, his driver’s licence and other information folded within.
Proulx called Walmart in the vain hope that someone might have turned it in, or — if not — that their surveillance cameras might have shed some light on what became of it.

He then called Niagara Regional Police to report that it was missing, and started the process of replacing the information he lost like his driver’s licence and birth certificate.
On Thursday, there was an unusual package in the mail.
Proulx looked at it trying to guess what it was, thinking that perhaps his mother had ordered something.
His mother saw the package was addressed to him and handed it back to him.
“I didn’t know if he was going to pass out or what,” Merry said. “He opened the package and he just burst out crying.”
It was his wallet — and they were tears of joy he was crying.
Nothing was tampered with. The only thing missing was one of the $20 bills. It had been replaced with a note, a receipt from the Canada Post office in Hamilton, and $7.50 — it was the change $20 after paying for the Express Post delivery.

“Happy New Year Robert! I found your wallet. You had $40 in it. I’ve used some to mail it back to you.”
It was signed Melissa, with a happy face drawn above her name.
Merry has been trying to find the Good Samaritan in the days since the wallet was returned.
“I tried to even hunt her down in Facebook, because he wanted to thank her,” Merry said, adding she has had no luck finding the woman yet.
Christmas is a special time of year for the Proulx family. The spelling of Merry’s name is a result of being born on a Christmas Day. And the return of the wallet, lost during the Christmas season, just makes it a little more meaningful for the family.
“Everything turned out really good,” she said.

"I am crying right now! What a beautiful ending!! It's so heartening to hear stories of good people like Melissa! I loved this - tell Rob I'm so happy he got his wallet back and, once again, faith restored in humanity. And his Mother 'Merry' - what a wonderful coincidence! Actually it's not likely a coincidence at all....it was meant to be.
Thanks for sharing this, Ken XO",
