The Ewings Say Goodbye  to J.R.

TNT's "Dallas" will bury patriarch J.R. Ewing in style on Episode 8 of the new season, according to the Huffington Post.

The episode will air on March 11 and will include some former "Dallas" regulars who have yet to make an appearance on the reboot, like Ted Shackelford and Joan Van Ark.

Producers were caught off-guard by Larry Hagman's death on November 23rd, but he had already filmed six of the Season 2 episodes which allowed the writers to rework the plot to reflect J.R.'s death. Hagman had been diagnosed with cancer over a year ago, but he kept on working through treatment.

Larry Hagman was a North Texas native and the son of Broadway legend Mary Martin. Hagman was born when Martin was 17. He often said that they "grew up together." They were close until her death in 1990.

The role of J.R. Ewing on "Dallas" changed Hagman's life and career dramatically. He was a well-known actor on "I Dream of Jeannie" with Barbara Eden, but it was the role of J.R. Ewing that rocketed Hagman to stardom.

At first I could not picture DALLAS without J.R. Ewing, but the writers have really beefed up the other characters roles and there are other 'evil' beings to want to see get what they deserve, so I think the show will be great still. I am betting a huge pix of J.R. similar to the big Jock Ewing pix will become a predominant part of future episodes....let's see.
