Pee Wee's Playhouse Opening Theme Tops List

A recent poll on Sun Media identified 20 of TV's most popular and memorable program theme songs of all time.

Included were M*A*S*H, Cheers, The Simpsons, Mad Men, Friends, Dexter, Get Smart, The Sopranos, Mary Tyler Moore, The Muppet Show, Corner Gas, The Andy Griffith Show and The X-File.

Here's a few more that made the list and which are favourites of Scribbles too...

No, he wasn't camera shy. Our friend Bob Miller was just trying to keep warm while on duty as a crossing guard, when his photo was taken to appear in our local newspaper The Standard.

The pix appeared on the St. Catharines newspaper's front page the day after one of the coldest days this Winter (so far, that is.) Bob was bundled up from head to toe, including a balaclava covering his face.

Let's hope the paper returns to see Bob in the Spring when we can see a little more of him  : )

Paradise is...Punta Cana

After one of the most trying years of her life, Pam Hopkins was ready to get away from it all and recharge her battery. And what better way than a vacation with her boyfriend Craig in tropical Punta Cana.

Pam tells Scribbles; "I had a wonderful time swimming with the Stingrays...I know sounds scary but it was a fantastic experience. It was very cool, they are slippery but the underside is so soft. It was just an amazing experience!! They removed the stinger thingy that can kill you so I wasn't nervous. Plus they do this 3 times a day, so I'm sure they are used to it. This one was a little feisty though!!!"

The couple also swam with sharks, snorkeled over the coral reef and got up early to watch the sunrise during their 8 day stay in what Pam referred to as "paradise."

We're very glad you had a good time Pam, if anyone deserved a break from reality for a while, it was you. And yes, I am very jealous.

TOP PIX: The Blythin family, BOTTOM PIX: The Dennis Family
Copy Cats

Last week we told you about our friends Rodney and Heather Dennis whose happy family will be growing later this Spring with the arrival of twins. The Dennis' first had a son (Kade), then a daughter (Alina) and soon will introduce identical twin girls.

Now comes word that our pals Ginger and Neil Blythin are also expecting the arrival of twins in August. They too started their family with a little boy (William) and then a girl (Kiera.)

What's going on here? Is there something in Niagara's water? Although from what we were taught in school, seems this might have more to do with the birds and the bees than H2O.

Not to be outdone, I too have an announcement. I now have twins as well. They arrived on Saturday and labour was painless, quick and easy.  Actually, the twin girls belong to Alina Dennis and they were a birthday present from Rob and I, she just let me pose with them for the pix we see here. LOL!
 Niagara's Loss is Toronto's Gain

Although we're happy that one of Niagara's most colourful characters has found a new life in Toronto, we're also very sad to see him go. Chris Snow (whose "real name" is Daryl Bell, in case you'd forgotten) started an exciting new and challenging job in the big T.O. leaving his Dunnville roots and scores of fans behind.

Chrissy is renown for his hilarious stage performances both in and out of drag. His performances include appearances across Southern Ontario and Western New York as well as many productions at the Dunnville Community Theatre.

Snow is best known as the owner of The New Vouz, once Niagara's finest and most popular LGBT bars which closed its doors 4 years ago. This was followed by a hot and steamy position in Fort Erie before being offered a lucrative new career in Toronto.

Chrissy, you know how much I love and admire you and even though it has been a while since we saw each other in person, there was comfort in knowing you were only a town away. Somehow that seems different now, even though Toronto truly isn't that far away. Like so many, I will miss you dearly and wish you nothing but fame, fortune and the greatest of success in your new home.

I hear there's a mayor's position coming up for grabs in two years, perhaps that will be your next role?

All the best my friend!

"Thanks Ken, for your story of Chrissy's big move. I liked what you said about the comfort of knowing that Chrissy was 'around' and yes, although T.O. is not far away, it feels like a planet away. I hope he finds the time to perform - would be a great opportunity for us to make a trip to see him!! I will forever read scripts with characters that would be perfect for Chrissy and Darryl...I was so hoping we would have him for a long time. We will surely miss him at the theatre, but thanks to the internet we can keep in touch and get updates on what he's up to. We wish him much luck and love in his future endeavours!"

It's wintertime. It's snowy. It's freezing cold outside. A good time to stay indoors perhaps?  Not if you're nature enthusiast Rich Hunt.

Rich looks at a brisk day as an opportunity to get out there and take some amazing shots of Mother Nature in all her winter glory, as we see in the photos we are proud to feature here.

Although just about anyone can go out and click off a bunch of photos featuring trees and snow, it takes a special talent to capture the very essence of that moment and that's something our pal Rich has mastered... hands down.

Thanks for letting me share your masterpieces buddy!

Stepher and Turtle Can't Get Enough of Each Other....
...And We Can't Get Enough of Them!

When I saw this photo of our friends Stepher Noodle Doodle and Rich "Turtle" Hunt on facebook I just couldn't help but smile. The dynamic duo have been together since sometime last year and you can just tell by looking at them how damn happy they are.

I shared this sentiment with them on facebook: "This will probably sound pretty corny....but whenever I see pix of you together it makes me smile and I can truly sense the love you have for each other. I am so happy your life paths crossed and have now become one."

Hey, I warned them it was going to be"corny"...but what can I say, it's just how I feel when I see their photos.

This is our second feature story of Stepher and Turtle in only a few short months and no doubt not the last either. Why? Well I'm willing to bet that I'm not the only one who gets all mushy when they see this picture perfect couple and a feeling that great is too good not to share over and over again.

Funny Papers!

Rob's brother and Rodney Dennis and his wife Heather will soon be expanding their family. The couple (who already have two kids, Kade and Alina) are expected identical twin girls later this Spring.

Rodney's been taking some ribbing from his buddies and Heather has announced that after the twins arrival, that will be "it" in the child bearing department.

Maybe it was a lack of sleep or a bit too much medication, but I wondered what it would be like if the baby population increased by 5 instead of 2 and came up with the silly faux covers seen above.

For the record, Rodney and Heather are not anticipating 5 new sets of little feet, pitter pattering around their Welland home, but now we know what that might look like if they did.  LOL!

Congrats on the news of identical twin girls, I'm very excited for you both.

 Queen Elizabeth MORPHED

Very cool (and a bit creepy) clip of Queen Elizabeth from infancy to present day. I love these kinds of videos.
I wonder how they do it? Sure would be neat to try and do something like this for Scribbles, eh?

We send a big thank you to Joan Storie for forwarding this clip to Scribbles. Keep them coming mom!!

I'm never disappointed when I snoop around the facebook pages of Amy Ballett and her son Kyle Whittaker. Both artisan mother and equally gifted offspring just ooze of creativity, which they proudly share with us through their art, music and photography...as evident above.

This pix was taken by Kyle, whom Amy dubbed "Cat photographer extraordinaire" and rightly so. We're not sure what kitty 'Stapler' is transfixed on but we're sure glad Kyle was there to capture the moment so beautifully.

Awesome Kyle, absolutely AWESOME!

Who Might Steal Your Heart? Sadie May.

Amy Ballett has a furry new friend and we just couldn't wait to tell everyone about her.

Amy tells Scribbles, "This is Sadie Mae, our newest addition...she is a 2.5 year old Jack Russell/ Pug - referred to as a "jug".

She has one eye due to an unfortunate accident with a Doberman before we got her, and was previously owned by 2 different households who took her to the Humane Society in Niagara Falls...we can't figure this out, because she is probably the most docile and affectionate dog we've ever had...and so expressive of her love".

Amy, I think I've figured out why Sadie Mae ended up at the Humane Society. How else would she have found her way into your home and into your heart?

This classic pix was taken when I was just a wee tyke, proudly posing with my pumpkin before it would surely become a jack-o-lattern. This really takes me back to a time when my worries were few and troubles unheard of. If only life could have remained that simple.
SENIOR MOMENTS...BRAIN FARTS

Holy Jumbo Jar Batman! Laura DeGraaf looks downright tiny, compared to the large jar of Nutella she's holding.  Judging by the background, we know she's not at Costco...maybe she's visiting the Land of the Giants. Wherever it is, that's a mighty tasty looking jar of Nutella and can you imagine how big the bread slices must be?  LOL!

Sleepy Bed Buddy

Our friend Sandra Burger-Vedder snapped this pix of her mother Linda as she enjoys a nap with Winnie the Pooh by her side. Due to health issues, Linda has resided at a nursing facility for a while now, but her silly and sweet daughter Sandra makes every moment a memorable one.

In the past Sandra has been known to do all sorts of amusing things, like being nasty to a strange looking plush bird toy (including running over it with a wheelchair.)

We've also seen Sandra perform tricks with her mom's electronically controlled bed, magically making it go up and down in a hilarious Houdini-style video.

No doubt, the photo above was another of Sandra's antics and Pooh bear seems to be in on the act. Keep them coming Sandra, you spread a lot of laughter and smiles with your wild imagination.

Is winning all that counts? Are you absolutely sure about that?

Very little has been said about this…..On December 2, Basque athlete Iván Fernández Anaya was competing in a cross-country race in Burlada, Navarre. He was running second, some distance behind race leader Abel Mutai - bronze medalist in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the London Olympics. As they entered the finishing straight, he saw the Kenyan runner - the certain winner of the race - mistakenly pull up about 10 meters before the finish, thinking he had already crossed the line.

Fernández Anaya quickly caught up with him, but instead of exploiting Mutai's mistake to speed past and claim an unlikely victory, he stayed behind and, using gestures, guided the Kenyan to the line and let him cross first.

Ivan Fernandez Anaya, a Basque runner of 24 years who is considered an athlete with a big future (champion of Spain of 5,000 meters in promise category two years ago) said after the test:
"But even if they had told me that winning would have earned me a place in the Spanish team for the European championships, I wouldn't have done it either. I also think that I have earned more of a name having done what I did than if I had won. And that is very important, because today, with the way things are in all circles, in soccer, in society, in politics, where it seems anything goes, a gesture of honesty goes down well."

He said at the beginning: unfortunately, very little has been said of the gesture. And it's a shame. In my opinion, it would be nice to explain to children, so they do not think that sport is only what they see on TV: violent kicks in abundance, posh statements, and fingers in the eyes of the enemy.
