Three Words To Describe Me

In a recent Reader’s Poll, we asked you to use three words to describe me. In return, I promised to come up with three words to describe you.

In addition, I had a particular word in mind that describes me (no, not “insane”, although that does fit the bill MANY times). Anyone who used that particular word as one of the three to describe me would be entered in a random draw, for a chance to win a $20 Walmart Gift Card.

The word I was looking for was “creative”. Let’s see what words our readers used…

Jackie Hughes said I am…

-Creative
-Compassionate
-Cute

My three words to describe Jackie would be…

-Devoted
-Humourous
-Understanding

Tammie Holditch described me as…

-Creative
-Sweet
-Funny

I would say Tammie is…

-Silly
-Caring
-Sensitive

Karin Campbell-Gadd said her former neighbour Ken is…

-Creative
-Loyal
-Funny

My words to best describe Karin are…

-Courageous
-Sympathetic
-Intelligent

My mother Joan Storie said I am…

-Compassionate
-Kind
-Humourous

And I’d have to say my mom is…

-Sensitive
-Amusing
-Inspiring

Bob Miller described me as…

-a Listener
-Sensitive
-Empathetic

Three words I would use to describe Bob would be…

-Knowledgeable
-Outspoken
-Caring

George Fishna said I am…

I’d have to say George is…

-Witty
-Caring
-Trustworthy

Merry Christine describes me as…

Kerri Fortier’s 3 words for me are…

OK so let’s see how many pals used the word “creative” when describing me? Looks like there’s three of you…Karin, Tammie and Jackie.

Your four names are each being put on pieces of paper.. we're folding them all up and shaking them around….

Now let’s pick one…open it up and reveal the winner to be…..
Karin Campbell-Gadd

Congratulations Karin, you will receive a $20 Walmart Gift Card, just for participating in our readers poll and using the word “creative” to describe me. Now just how creative is that, eh?? LOL

It's Official!
Most of You Hate Mornings

Poll # 7
We asked our readers some questions regarding sleep. Here are the results...

1. Do you need to set an alarm clock in order to wake up at a certain time to go to school, work, whatever,...... or do you wake up in plenty of time, without needing an alarm?

75% of you always use alarm clocks to help them rise and shine in time.
A few of you say you set the alarm, but are usually awake before it goes off.

And one reader said, "That's the beauty of retirement...no alarm clocks!"

2. YES or NO? Would you consider yourself a “Morning Person” (someone who wakes up happy and refreshed and ready to face a new day)

90% of those who replied (myself included) said they are definitely NOT a morning person.

In fact there were only a few people who said they are happy campers when they wake up. [I know where they live, so let's go get them and shake the "morning joy" out of them...LOL (kidding, I do not advocate violence -too many law suits these days...heehee)

3. What is the very first thing you do once you get up out of bed in the morning? (And don’t use “turn off the alarm clock”, that’s a given.)

For most of you, taking a pee is the first thing on your agenda.

There were some other usual replies including, "Turn on the Amateur Radio Station", "Brush My Fangs" and "Sit in my massage chair" (now THAT would definitely make me want to go "tinkle".

The first thing I do in the morning, even before hitting the lue, is start the coffeemaker. Just gotta get my big cup o' joe brewing.

4. Do you eat breakfast every morning?

Split this one right down the middle. Half of you eat breakfast and the other half of you do not. I'm guilty of that one too.

5. What is your usual bedtime?

Most of you are tucked in bed between 10:30 and 11:30 and 1 am is bedtime for a few others. Our "retiree" is a bit of a night owl, going to bed at 2am and rising at noon.

6. How many hours of sleep per night do you usually get?

65% of you get 8 hours sleep, 25% get 5-6 hours and 10% go into semi-hybernation, enjoying 9-10 hours rest per night....WOW, lucky you!

Trick? Or Treat?
poll #6Readers opinions about Halloween

Do you consider Halloween a celebration that’s just for kids or for adults too?

85% of you said it's for adults too (one even suggesting we use the kids element as a cover)
15% said being "older" readers they believe Halloween is just for children.

Do you usually dress-up every Halloween?

This one was 50/50. Half of you don't dress up at Halloween and the other 50% of you do. One reader said she has a minimum of 3 costumes per Halloween. WOW, guess she makes up for those of you who don't wear costumes. LOL

Aside from a traditional jack-o-lantern, do you decorate your home with spooky Halloween decorations?

Seems most of you settle for a jack-o-lattern or less when it comes to decorating for Halloween. But that didn't apply to all of you.

One reader told us: "Do black crows, haunting skeletons, Dinner table set with fork, knife and brains on a plate and a full graveyard count as spooky decorations?? I'm not sure !" (If you guessed it was the same person who has 3 costumes at Halloween, you are correct, heehee)
Due to safety concerns, should children no longer be allowed to randomly go door-to-door trick or treating instead attending indoor events?

Everyone said it should still be allowed but that parents need to show more responsiblity. Go with your child when they go door to door for treats. We always had a parent or someone older than us go with us when we were kids.

"It was a family event" one reader said.

Others agreed, if you keep to your neighbour or homes of those you know and be sure to check the kids candy before you let them eat it, it's still a tradition that should remain.

And finally, we asked would you like Halloween to be a stat (paid) holiday?

100% of you said NO, although one person said it should occur at least three times a year. (yes, it was "her' again...LMAO).

Two and a Half Replies...

Poll #5
Now that Charlie Sheen’s been killed off and Ashton Kutcher has moved in, we wanted to know what you think about the revamped “Two and a Half Men”

We asked, did you like Two and Half Men better with Charlie Sheen or now with Ashton Kutcher or do you like it pretty much the same either way?

50 % said it was better with Charlie and the other 50% said it was pretty much the same either way.

None of our readers said they have only JUST started to watch the show because Ashton is on it and no one thought the show is funnier with Kutcher. Most thought the humour is pretty much the same now as it has ever been.

And finally we asked, do you think the show will last beyond than this season?

65% said NO, they doubt the show will last past this season and 35 % said it would.

poll #4
Animal Rights

We featured two sad stories featuring pets and abuse and wanted to hear your thoughts on the sensitive subject.

Our first story was about an 11 year old boy who was walking his 5 lb dog on Thanksgiving weekend. The dog was on a leash and ran up to a lady walking the opposite direction. He nipped at her pant legs, the woman grabbed the leash, swung it in the air, breaking the little dog's neck who dead immediately in front of the horrified boy. Witnesses called the police and the woman was charged with animal cruelty.

We asked our readers what they thought was the proper punishment for this lady's crime.

One reader felt the fine she would pay was enough because the dog started it.

Some suggested she never be allowed to own a pet.

And then there was the reader who suggested this:
"If I ran the world she would be excuted- since that can't happen there should be a huge fine and a significant amount of jail time...as there is for most murders AND she should pay for the psychologist's fees for however long it takes for that child to get over the trauma of witnessing that."

Recently I watched a documentary about abandoned cats and the people who try to save them.
The documentary mentioned that many pet owners don't get their pet spayed or neutered because of the high cost.

We asked if something should be done to make these costs more affordable.

75% of our readers said YES and the rest were undecided.

And finally in this poll, we asked if people wanting to adopt a pet should be required to provide more information to show that they can afford it.

85% of you said YES.

One respondent said "I don't think any pet stores should sell puppies and kittens to avoid the impulse buy "oh how cute" never giving any thought to the cost involved over many years. I also saw a disturbing trend while I worked for vets.....people who seemed willing to pay the hundreds to get a purebred didn't want to pay hundreds to treat a condition. ...they would euthanize and go get another one. Throw away mentality."

poll #3
Thanks

Due to an editing error, we're sorry to say we lost the original replies, when we asked you what you were thankful for.

It appears family, health, their jobs, homes, friends, hobbie and faith topped the list for most of you.

 poll #2

Pet Peeves

We asked our readers to share some of their pet peeves with us and as it turns out, you have many!  Here's what our readers biggest pet peeves are:

-Rude drivers not signaling to make their turns.

-Arrogant, know it all people.

-Waiting in line when getting my groceries.

-Having to walk so much to be able to get what I need at Walmart.

-Bad spellers.

-Litter bugs!

-People who look at youths as no good thieves who live under a bridge and smoke crack and are in a gang.

-People who eat noisily and move their food around while scraping their forks on the plate.

-Racist people.

-Too much glue on the toilet paper roll.

-People drive in the passing lane slow!!!

-When a customer is asking to have a perm....but not "one of those FRIZZY perms"!Like I want to give her a FRIZZY perm!

-When a Cashier opens a new check out counter and customers at the end of a line jump in before other customers who clearly have been waiting longer!

-Customers with more than 8 items in the Express counter!

-I have a new roommate who just moved in, we cleared to shelves in the fridge for him. He takes over both shelves and moves the rest of our food over and takes over everyone else’s shelves. ..And when he sees us actually asks us to clear even more room for him. Are you freakin’ serious, he has more room than all of us who have lived in the house for 2 years. New guy comes along and wants to take over…Major Pet Peeve!

-When women wear their PJ Bottoms out in public (usually in Walmart but it annoys me anywhere)

-When people are too bloody LAZY to pick up their feet when they walk !!!! This is the WORST !!! I tolerate it when it's a little old lady but when I can HEAR people walking (sliding) around me, it's all I can do not to turn to them and yell "PICK UP YOUR DARNED FEET !!!"

KEN SHARES HIS PET PEEVES:

-People who tailgate me. GGGRRR!!!  When someone tailgates me I just want to slow down even more, as if to say "Hey F$#% You Buddy"

-Moron dog owners who let their dog stick its head out the car window. Do they not realize how dangerous that is??  Their beloved canine could get debris in its ears or eyes and if  they have to stop suddenly their dog could be seriously injured. Sure, take Rover for a drive, but keep his head INSIDE the vehicle you fool!!

Awwwww, that felt good to get off my chest -now I know why many readers said it made them feel good to vent their peeves.

poll #1
Election Talk

Thurs. Oct. 6th is Election Day in Ontario, we asked our readers these questions....
Will you be voting on Oct. 6th?

100% of those who responded said YES! That's great to hear because it really is everyone in Ontario's chance to make their voices heard. Don't bitch if you don't vote I always say.

We asked our readers if they watched the debate between the three major party leaders on TV.

Surprisingly 100% of our responses said NO. One reader said 6:30 pm was just too early but they did watch the highlights later that night on the news. I caught the last 50 minutes of the debate and I thought each of the leaders pretty much repeated their key points over and over, which is pretty typical of such debates.

As expected, there's no shortage of attack ads on TV. We asked if you thought these ads were inappropriate.

50% said NO
25% said YES
While another 25% hadn't seen any of these ads

And lastly, in our first readers poll we asked our readers:
Will the political party you plan on voting for in the upcoming Provincial election be the same party you voted for in our Federal election.

60% of you said NO
40% said YES

Thanks to those who participated in our  readers polls.
