END-OF-YEAR EDITORIAL | They Walk Amongst Us
Here we are at the end of yet another year. I swear, the older I get the faster the years seem to go by.
2023 was a year of many highs and numerous lows for myself and our Scribbles family.
We said a lot of goodbyes to some very dear friends, beloved pets, celebrities and legends. At times I was hesitant to open Facebook, because it felt like every day I would see someone else had passed away. Other Scribbles friends delt with crippling illnesses that disrupted their lives. There were wars and murders, storms and insane inflation. It was hard not to think things were pretty bleak.
Fortunately, the world is also filled will a lot of very kind, caring people. We don’t hear about them much but they are out there, in far greater numbers than all the bad people put together. What they’re doing isn’t going viral, because they’re not doing things for the notoriety, they’re doing it because they genuinely like helping others. The world needs more like them. Many of our Scribbles friends shared that kindness throughout the year.
Other friends rose above the darkness with art in the form of performing music, live theatre and in our case a website devoted to happiness and laughter.
We shared plenty of your adventures throughout 2023 with What’s New With You, we featured lots of cool contests (even some that our pal Jackie DIDN’T win…LOL), Joe Friday continued to make us smile with his new escapades, we kept you informed with lots of Events listings and our pal Mr. Sock delighted young and old with his crazy antics in new Scribbles Videos.
Your response to our Rudolph Storytime video is quite touching. I’m glad so many of you enjoyed it and had a few good laughs. Be sure to enter our Sock vs. Sock Christmas Edition and then look for the infamous snowman in our 43rd Annual Find Frosty Contest. Wait did I just say 43rd? Holy Cow! That’s a lot!

Also, just wanted to state that I did not entirely come up with this idea myself, I saw a DIY video that created something similar and I modified it a tad.

HELPFUL TIP
Aloe vera is one of the best natural skin products around and can be particularly helpful with easing the pain of a bad sunburn.
Using either the fresh juice straight from an aloe plant or pre-extracted gel, pour some aloe vera into an ice cube tray and let it freeze.
Whenever you suffer a bad sunburn, or if you’re just dealing with puffiness around the eyes, you can use one of these aloe vera cubes for instant cooling relief.
Plus, aloe is hypoallergenic, so the cube will benefit even the most sensitive of skin types.

GAME | Try Your Luck Again with an Encore of miD | Way
ENCORE POST I'm an avid fan of TV game shows, and after watching a sickening amount of them online lately, I was compelled to come up with a game show for Scribbles. I call it Midway (stylized as "miD | Way") and the concept is fairly easy to pick up on.
What wasn't so easy was putting it all together. That's not a complaint. I chose to do this and I enjoyed the challenges I faced, or more accurately, challenges I created...LOL. There's all the bells and whistles associated with a genuine TV game show. Moving graphics (created using lots of individual images) gaming sound effects, a theme song jingle, a colourful host and lots of (pretend) prizes, Midway has ALL of these.
You're cordially invited to play Midway. You'll need paper and pen or pencil to write down your answers to our 10 questions. We suggest you choose a time when you can devote 12 minutes to playing a fun little game.
Our wild and crazy pal Klyde joins the fun popping up throughout the game and presenting the (pretend) prizes when the game is completed.
We even have a few brief ads "midway" through the show. These are also exclusive to Scribbles and almost as entertaining as the game itself....almost. And as an added cherry on the top... We have a few new bloopers that reveal it often takes me several attempts to properly read the game info I wrote. There's no furniture breaking in this collection of flubs, but there's still a few chuckle-worthy moments to take in.
